KOORAINADU SILK & COTTON

Koorainadu, near Mayiladuthurai is traditionally known for its coarse count cotton sarees. In a Tamil wedding, the bride wears the “Koorai Pudavai” when the groom ties the “thali” or “mangalsutra”, which makes the saree an auspicious one. The Weavers Societies have innovated the checkered sarees in multi-colour hues, woven with silk yarn and mercerized cotton.
